Holding a degree in Fine Arts, the painter Ančka Gošnik Godec is one of the pioneers of Slovenian illustration, as well as one of those who have turned illustration into an important branch of painting. Her illustrations in children’s magazines, picturebooks, and fairy-tale collections have marked many childhoods; for forty years, children also delighted in her picture crossword puzzles. Ančka Gošnik Godec’s world is at once realistic and fantastical, recognisable and miraculous, traditional and original – but, without exception, always cheerful and gently humorous.
