Slavko Pregl
9/9/1945
Slavko Pregl writes mostly realistic prose stemming from the everyday (usually urban) life of children, teenagers, and adults. Some of his stories feature fairy-tale elements; optimism and humour, however, can be found in all of them. It is Pregl’s firm belief that no situation is ever hopeless and devoid of light – which he makes perfectly clear in his works.
The Green Dragon Expedition
Her eyes remained shut. Bob coughed again. Nothing from her still. Suddenly, Bob seemed to have been assaulted by nineteen bouts of whooping cough. Apparently startled, the girl jumped away, her eyes flying open. Bob asked: ‘Is this spot here occupied?’ He waved his arms around so wildly that you could not exactly tell where ‘here’ was. Miha kept staring, as did the girl, who simply nodded wordlessly. Bob dropped down next to her and closed his eyes. The fair-haired person did not like it, and she said: ‘Is there no more room on the whole beach?’ Bob propped himself up on his elbows and looked at her, love-struck. Then he shook his head humbly. ‘How can that be?! There’s room everywhere!’ the girl protested angrily.
