Tone Pavček

9/29/1928 ✝ 10/21/2011

The poet Tone Pavček claimed his place among the giants of Slovenian literature for all ages a long time ago. Critics have called him ‘a word magician’; he played with words and sounds both as a translator and as an extraordinary poet. His poems are often as boisterous as children; and while he speaks of pain, disappointment, and sorrow in his work, he never accommodates despair. He keeps his eyes raised, towards the sun.

The World
You’re in the world to look at the sun. You’re in the world to follow the sun. You’re in the world to be the sun And to rid the world – of shadows.
